Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, John Mbadi, has made a strong and emotional statement about his readiness to guide the Luo community, even as he admits that matching the legacy of veteran leader Raila Odinga will not be easy.
Mbadi said leadership is not about copying another person but about offering direction using one’s own wisdom, experience, and understanding of the people.
Mbadi praised Raila Odinga as a great political icon who has stood firm for the Luo community and played a key role in shaping Kenya’s political history.
He noted that Raila’s influence and sacrifices have left a lasting mark that deserves respect and honour.
However, he made it clear that the community must also prepare for the future by embracing new leadership styles.
“I may not be able to fit into Raila’s shoes, but I am ready to lead the Luo community in the way I know,” Mbadi said.
“My focus will be on unity, development, and ensuring our people benefit from national resources and opportunities.”
As the CS for National Treasury, Mbadi highlighted the importance of economic empowerment, urging the Luo community to focus on investments, education, and skill development.
He promised to use his position to push for fair distribution of resources and to support projects that improve livelihoods in the region.
He also called for peace and togetherness, warning against divisions that could weaken the community’s voice at the national level.
According to Mbadi, strong leadership is built on listening to the people, consulting widely, and putting the needs of the community first.
Political observers say Mbadi’s remarks signal his growing role in regional leadership as Raila Odinga slowly steps back from active frontline politics.
Many see his message as realistic, respectful, and forward looking.
Supporters who attended the event welcomed his words, describing him as calm, focused, and ready to take responsibility.
His statement has sparked fresh discussion about the future direction of leadership within the Luo community.
Mbadi concluded by assuring the people that his door will remain open and that he will continue working closely with leaders and citizens to build a united and prosperous future.
