Tendwet village in Narok County is at the centre of a strange and tense drama after a man tried to force his way into a departing helicopter.
A short video shared on Facebook shows the man running toward the aircraft as it prepared to lift off from a dusty open field. The clip has stirred debate across Kenya as people question what drove him to take such a risky step.
The helicopter sat on a rough makeshift helipad surrounded by dry grass and scattered acacia trees.
A small dog walked around the skids, unaware of the trouble about to unfold. Villagers had gathered to watch the aircraft take off, a rare sight in the remote area.
As the rotors picked up speed, the man sprinted straight toward the open door. A police officer on duty stepped forward and raised a hand to stop him.
The officer tried to warn him that the area was restricted. The man did not listen. He pushed past the crowd and moved closer to the door as the helicopter shook in the strong wind.
The officer blocked him again, but this time the man reacted with sudden anger. He slapped the officer hard across the face. People nearby gasped and stepped back.
Dust swirled around them as the helicopter engines roared. The officer staggered but stayed on his feet as he reached for his radio to call for support.
Villagers rushed in to hold the man back. Some begged the officer to stay calm while others tried to pull the man away from the aircraft.
Voices rose in a mix of Maa and Swahili as the situation became chaotic. The pilot, sensing danger, lifted the helicopter sharply into the air and flew off before things got worse.
The video ends before showing what happened next. Police in Narok have not revealed the man’s name or his reasons for the desperate act.
The officer’s condition is also unclear. Locals claim the man may have been troubled by poverty or family struggles, but there is no official confirmation.
