What Happened to TZ Opposition Leader in Custody, Forcing Police to Rush Him to Hospital

Police in Tanzania were reportedly forced to rush CHADEMA Vice Chair, John Heche, to hospital on Monday, after he fell sick in detention.

Heche had been in custody for close to three weeks, having been arrested in Dodoma last month and held in a secret location for weeks.

He was availed in hospital and later released, after earlier having been charged with terrorism, as reported by BBC.

The former Tarime Rural MP was released alongside former Arusha Town MP Godbless Lema and former Ubungo Mayor Boniface Jacob, who had been charged with fanning the recent protests.

Also released on bail was CHADEMA's Deputy Secretary General Amani Golugwa, with the team being accused of organising the demos with the intention of preventing last month's election.

Heche has been in charge of CHADEMA's operations, following the arrest of his boss, CHADEMA chairman Tundu Lissu, who has been in custody since early this year on treason charges.
