Caleb Amisi Raises Questions Over Circumstances Surrounding Cyrus Jirongo’s Death

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has cast doubt on the circumstances surrounding the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, calling for closer scrutiny of what happened on the night he lost his life.

Jirongo died in a road accident on Saturday night along the Nakuru–Nairobi highway. While the incident was initially reported as a traffic crash, Amisi believes there are unanswered questions that deserve investigation.

In a statement shared on social media on Monday, Amisi recounted Jirongo’s final hours, noting that he left Karen at around 11:30 pm after spending time with close friends.

According to Amisi, these were people who had known Jirongo for decades and were familiar with his habits, including his ability to drive home safely even after social outings.

Amisi said there was nothing unusual about that night to suggest it would end in tragedy.

What troubled the legislator, however, was the journey that followed. He pointed out that Jirongo appeared to drive past his usual turn-off and continued along unfamiliar routes without difficulty.

According to the account, Jirongo drove through the Southern Bypass, passed Kikuyu and Limuru, navigated the misty Kinungi stretch, and went on through Gilgil — all in the middle of the night.

During this time, Amisi says, he negotiated corners, bumps, oncoming traffic and overtook other vehicles without incident.

For nearly three hours, the drive appeared smooth and controlled, raising doubts about claims that he was severely impaired while behind the wheel.

Amisi questioned why someone allegedly intoxicated would manage such a long and complex journey without any visible signs of distress or loss of control.

It was only upon reaching the Naivasha area, around 3:00 am, that Jirongo reportedly realised he was not on the route home. At that point, he attempted to turn back.

Amisi described the timing as significant, saying the early morning hours are often associated with fatigue, vulnerability and unexpected danger on the roads.

He questioned what exactly changed at that point, after hours of steady driving.
Questions over the collision

According to the version of events circulating, as Jirongo attempted to overtake vehicles near a petrol station, an oncoming bus carrying dozens of passengers collided with his car.

The bus driver later claimed he deliberately rammed into Jirongo’s vehicle to protect passengers, allegedly believing the former MP was drunk.

Amisi challenged this explanation, questioning why the other vehicles involved in the alleged traffic jam were not affected and how both drivers appeared to have made split-second decisions without involving other motorists.

He suggested that the narrative raises more questions than answers.
