While polygamy is legal in Kenya, it's difficult to confirm publicly known individuals who are second wives, as it's not always a matter of public record or discussion. 

However, some prominent Kenyan female politicians may have been involved in polygamous marriages, although this is not always publicly known or acknowledged.

Some of our favourite celebrities have also joined the bandwagon proving that love really does conquer all at least for most of them.Here are some Kenyan celebrities who have been married as second wives:

1.Sabina Chege 

Before joining politics, Sabina, became a household name as an actress in the popular television drama series, Tausi, in which she played the role of Rehema before becoming a radio presenter with Coro FM.

Interestingly, before Sabina hooked up with Maina, she was linked to her first flame, Kikuyu Benga musician John De’Mathew (John Ndemethiu).

Sabina won the heart of former Kenya Dairy Board boss, Gathitu Maina. Their relationship sparked debate during the 2017 General Elections when she showed up with her husband to pick her election certificate. 

Many interpreted the move as a show-off pitting Maina's two wives against each other.

2.Esther Passaris

This beautiful Nairobi Woman Rep elect is the mum to Makena Maria and Lefteris Ngugi, children she had from her marriage to renowned co­ffee farmer and Kenya Nut Company billionaire Pius Mbugua Ngugi.

During a TV interview, Passaris shocked many when she revealed that she was the second wife in a polygamous setup.

3.Cate Waruguru

Businessman Peter Waweru recently confirmed he is married to former Laikipia woman representative Cate Waruguru.

Waweru is a renowned businessman running overseas businesses for shipping and consolidations of goods with a clearing and forwarding company known as Sunrise Investments group ltd.

Speaking to Word Is, Waweru, the current Kirinyaga County Chamber of Commerce chairman, said he wants people to respect his decision and to identify Waruguru as his official second wife.

"Cate is my wife and people should stop saying we are dating or whatever they say. She is my wife and we live together," he said.Waweru added that both Cate's parents and his are officially aware of their union.

4.Mary Wambui

Mary Wambui, who was reported to be the late president Kibaki's second wife, made for strange bedfellows.

A woman of humble beginnings and modest education whose life experiences as tea girl turned secretary in a rural town political party office seemed so far removed from the hallowed grounds Kibaki strode as an economist, Cabinet minister and Vice President, their union demonstrated that love doesn’t give a damn.
