Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stirred the pot with explosive claims against President William Ruto, alleging the president is paying goons to fill church pews and cheer him on.
In a fiery X post today, Gachagua detailed how Ruto has ramped up his church appearances, using school buses to ferry hired crowds and doling out KSh 1,000 per person to boost his image.
The accusations come with photos showing women and even men in guild attire and buses marked with school names, suggesting a coordinated effort.
Gachagua claims Ruto’s weekly church donations have jumped from KSh 2 million to KSh 20 million, accusing him of buying loyalty after losing public trust.
He ties this to broader grievances—abductions of activists, economic mismanagement, and tax hikes that sparked deadly 2024 protests.
Gachagua, impeached in October 2024, paints Ruto as a conman who shed his “Christian mask” post-election.
It should be noted that the Catholic Church and PCEA have distanced themselves, rejecting such tactics employed by politicians to lure believers to support them.
Amid online reactions from Kenyans, some of whom mocked the claims with memes, the allegations deepen the rift between the former allies, raising questions about Ruto’s leadership ahead of future elections.
