Martha Karua, leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), has criticized the Kenyan government for taking too long to announce the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking in a Tuesday TV47 interview, Karua said, “The Kenyan government took too long to release the news of the passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.
It was a sad occasion, we mourn him but even more, we celebrate him for his life’s work of fighting for Kenyans.”
Raila Odinga passed away in India on October 15, 2025, while undergoing medication and was later buried according to his family’s wishes.
Karua stressed that the delay in official communication should not overshadow Raila’s decades-long contributions to Kenya’s democracy, social justice, and national unity.
She described Raila as a transformative political figure whose advocacy expanded citizen participation and strengthened multiparty governance.
Karua also called on government leaders to ensure timely dissemination of information on matters of national importance, noting that delays can erode public trust.
Karua urged Kenyans to honor his life by reflecting on his fight for fairness, civic engagement, and inclusive leadership.
