Kenyans Excited as Old Bus Successfully Reaches Busia from Nairobi

What started as a casual photo at a Nairobi bus stage quickly turned into a nationwide online spectacle that captured the attention of thousands of Kenyans.

The image showed an ageing blue-and-white town bus preparing to ferry passengers from Nairobi to Busia — a journey of about 465 kilometres. 

Nicknamed Survivor 6, the bus immediately sparked debate, disbelief and curiosity across social media platforms.

Many Kenyans doubted the vehicle could handle the long-distance trip. Well known as a Nairobi town service bus, Survivor 6 had spent years operating short routes within the city. 

With modern coaches dominating long-haul travel, few expected the old machine to survive the demanding journey to western Kenya.

Despite the doubts, the bus owner made a bold decision, driven partly by the festive season rush that had left many travellers stranded. 

Over 30 passengers boarded the bus, some out of necessity, others out of curiosity, and a few simply hopeful it would make it.

As the journey began, Kenyans took to social media to track Survivor 6’s progress in real time. For more than eight hours, updates and photos poured in as the bus crawled through highways, towns and rural roads. Each post attracted jokes, prayers, encouragement and nervous anticipation.

Then came the moment many had quietly feared would never happen.

Against all odds, Survivor 6 safely rolled into Busia, intact and triumphant. The online reaction was instant. 

Celebration posts flooded timelines, with many calling the journey inspirational. Others described it as proof that determination and good maintenance can outperform expectations.
