Oburu is Acting Party leader, On Who Will Lead Luos & Replace Raila Will Be Known Overtime - Otiende

Senator Oburu Odinga has stepped in as the acting leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, following the passing of his brother, Raila Odinga.

However, the big question on everyone's mind is who will replace the late Raila as the leader of the Luo community.

According to ODM Member of Parliament (MP) Otiende Amollo, the successor will not be decided overnight and will take time to emerge.

Amollo also made a crucial point, revealing that Raila Odinga was never officially elected to lead the Luo community.

MP Otiende Amollo’s comments have triggered a wave of political discussions, especially within the Luo community, where Raila was a central figure.

The late Raila was seen as the face of the community, though, according to Amollo, he never held an official title as the elected leader of the Luo people.

This statement has sparked debate on whether the community will rally around another figure or if a more gradual process will determine its future leadership.

Additionally, Amollo addressed the issue of party loyalty in ODM.

He pointed out that several individuals who spoke at the late Cyrus Jirongo’s funeral and currently serve in the Executive are no longer recognized as ODM officials, despite still being party members.

He emphasized the importance of clarity regarding their capacity to speak on behalf of the party, drawing attention to the distinction between being a member and holding an official leadership role.

The statements from Amollo have raised eyebrows within ODM, and the ongoing leadership shift is sure to reshape the political landscape.

While Oburu Odinga temporarily takes the helm, the party and the Luo community are left to navigate uncertain waters.

As time passes, it remains to be seen who will step up to fill the immense shoes left by Raila Odinga.
