In a statement shared on Sunday, January 4, Babu said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at a restaurant along Lenana Road.
According to the legislator, he had driven himself to the venue at around 3:40 p.m. to attend a private meeting with a clergyman.
Babu explained that after holding discussions for about 20 minutes, he stood up to leave. As he was exiting, he noticed a group of people known to him seated at a nearby table.

Out of courtesy, he walked over to greet them, unaware that Robert Alai was part of the group.
The MP alleged that immediately after greeting the MCA, Alai accused him of orchestrating online attacks against his wife.

Babu denied the accusation, stating that he does not know Alai’s wife and would never involve family members in political disputes.
“I calmly explained that I had no connection to his wife and no reason to target innocent people. Attacking women has never been part of my politics,” Babu said.
According to the MP, his attempt to defuse the situation was unsuccessful. He claimed that Alai became increasingly aggressive, pushed him, drew a firearm, and struck him on the chest and jaw with it in full view of other patrons.
Despite the alleged assault, Babu said he remained composed and urged the MCA to calm down. The situation briefly de-escalated, with the two sitting down as another individual intervened between them.
However, Babu claimed the calm was short-lived. He alleged that Alai once again turned hostile and poured a glass of water on his face, drawing the attention of people inside the restaurant.
Fearing further escalation and wishing to avoid physical confrontation, Babu said he immediately left the premises and reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station, where he formally lodged a complaint.
The MP linked the incident to political tensions, claiming his opposition to the current broad-based government has earned him enemies within his party. He said he has previously received threats and believes his safety is at risk.
Babu called on security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action.
The incident comes amid ongoing political friction within ODM, where Babu has faced accusations from some party members who view him as aligned with rival political interests.
