Prophet Owuor Urges Government to Investigate Alleged Faith Healings

Renowned cleric Prophet David Owuor has called on the government to conduct an independent investigation into claims of faith-based healings associated with his ministry.

In a statement issued on Sunday, January 5, Owuor said his ministry possesses medical records documenting individuals who claim to have been healed during his religious crusades.

He challenged state agencies to subject the claims to professional medical evaluation.

The preacher urged the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) to carry out a formal and transparent review of the cases.

“We are not asking for blind acceptance. We are asking for a proper examination,” Owuor said, adding that the documentation available should be scrutinised using established medical standards.

He further stated that the findings of such an investigation should be made public to allow Kenyans to independently assess the validity of the claims.

Owuor’s remarks come a day after KMPDC issued a caution over reports that serious medical conditions were allegedly healed through faith interventions at a crusade held in Nakuru.

In a statement released on Saturday, January 3, KMPDC Chief Executive Officer David Kariuki said the council was concerned about claims involving illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, blindness and physical disabilities.

He warned that such statements, particularly when made by medical practitioners in religious settings, raise serious public health and ethical concerns.

The council emphasised that all medical treatments in Kenya must be evidence-based, scientifically tested and approved by relevant authorities.

It cautioned that unverified claims of curing life-threatening conditions could mislead patients and discourage them from seeking proven medical care.

KMPDC also warned that reliance on unproven healing methods could result in worsening health outcomes, drug resistance or even loss of life.

While acknowledging the role of faith and spirituality, the council urged the public not to abandon prescribed medical treatment for chronic or serious illnesses.

The regulatory body confirmed that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other agencies.

It added that disciplinary or legal action would be taken against any health professionals found to have violated medical regulations or endangered public safety.
